Introductory Animal Science including the history, philosophy, and theory of animal husbandry. Types and breeds of livestock, terminology, methods, management systems, techniques of animal and poultry production, and consumer impact are discussed. $35 science fee. Course Outcomes: 1. Understand the field of Animal Science, the livestock industries and animals providing food, fiber and recreation for people 2. Develop an understanding of the commonly used methods, techniques and systems of animal production, management, selection and marketing 3. Understand some of the basic scientific principles of animal reproduction, breeding, nutrition, health and behavior 4. Communicate effectively using proper terminology common to the animal sciences 5. Recognize the common types and breeds of animals, and their characteristics 6. Develop an awareness of some of the current problems and issues associated with production of animal products
