BHS 110: Cross-Cultural Partnerships

This class aims to prepare students for a career in peer support. An introduction to topics including cultural diversity including children, young adults, families, BIPOC, Veterans and people with visible and invisible differing abilities and implications for recovery.

BHS 111: Ethics and Boundaries

Credits 1 10

This course prepares students for a career in behavioral health peer support. It addresses ethical considerations and core competency foundations established by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Washington State Healthcare Authority.

BHS 112: Documentation

Credits 1 10

This course will prepare students for a career as a Certified Peer Counselor. This course addresses substance use disorder, mental health and co-occurring disorder documentation in the peer support field. It addresses transdisciplinary foundations established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Washington State Healthcare Authority (HCA) and National Association of Peer Supporters (INAPS).

BHS 113: Forming Internal and External Partnerships

Credits 1 10

This course prepares students for a career in behavioral health peer support. It addresses overarching concepts of ethics, cultural humility, and the importance of forming internal and external partnerships with formal and informal supports. This course addresses transdisciplinary foundations established by the Washington State Healthcare Authority.

BHS 114: Supervision Utilization

Credits 1 10

This course prepares students for a career in behavioral health peer support. This class will cover topics including seeking opportunities to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities. Using supervision effectively.

BHS 115: Utilizing Lived Experience

Credits 1 10

This class aims to prepare students for a career in behavioral health peer support. This is an introduction to storytelling and the power of vulnerability in using one?s own story in the workplace. The course will offer an introduction of the history of peer support and explore skills and techniques to assist the student in recognizing concepts of how to ethically use your story in your work as a Certified Peer Counselor.

BHS 119: Trauma Informed Perspective

Credits 1 10

This course aims to prepare students for a career in peer support. Students will learn about the impacts of trauma, develop a trauma informed lens to use when connecting clients to services and they will better understand the correlation of behavioral health and trauma. Please note that this course has been developed to create an awareness about the impact of trauma. Practice self-care throughout this class. Strong feelings may arise as we begin to explore these topics. Please notify your instructor immediately should you need assistance exploring self-care options during or upon completion of this course.
