This hands-on intensive course will introduce students to soilless hydroponic crop production. The course will provide information on key components of hydroponic crop production including plant growth and nutrition, growing systems, and cultural practices. Students will apply concepts to the growth of hydroponic crops in a commercial greenhouse setting. $35 science fee. Course Outcomes: 1. Describe hydroponics crop production (SLO 1,2,4). 2. Demonstrate management of hydroponic systems (design and construction) in commercial settings (SLO 1,4). 3. Analyze hydroponic growing media (SLO 1,4). 4. Apply greenhouse operation and management strategies to promote an ideal environment for plant growth (1,3,4). 5. Evaluate nutrient management in a hydroponic setting (1,2,4, 6). 6. Apply pest and disease management in controlled environments (1,4).
