CRT 101: Basics of Carpentry [RE]

Safety on the worksite is the emphasis for this class - designed to be the first of 16 courses necessary for completion of the carpentry apprenticeship program. This course offers certifications for First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10, and Fall Protection. There is training with basic hand and power tool usage, basic knot tying, and the usage of the Construction Master Pro calculator. The apprentice will be introduced to many of the basic skills and knowledge necessary for success in today's construction industry. Expectations, challenges, and opportunities encountered by today's carpenter are anticipated and discussed. The introduction and development of safe and efficient work habits and positive character traits for the workplace also will be emphasized. 50% tuition rate for Apprenticeships

CRT 102: Structural Steel Stud Framing [RE]

In this course, the focus will be on heavy-gauge steel framing components, and the differences between steel framing and the more familiar wood framing. All aspects of load-bearing wall, floor, and roof construction are discussed. An emphasis is made on structural methods, codes, and standards. Objectives for this course will be met through classroom lecture, demonstration, and discussion, and performance-based competency tasks conducted in the lab. 50% tuition rate for Apprenticeships

CRT 110: Flashing and Wall Coping

Credits 1 15

The overall purpose of the class is to develop the ability to select and use proper means and methods of installing metal flashing, trim, and wall coping. The benefits and applications of flashing and coping, material handling and placement strategies, plan reading, and OSHA safety models will be covered. Three major conceptual schemes comprise the focus of this course: Substrate preparation and layout, installation methods and sequencing, and precision cutting and bending techniques. Although the major emphasis of the course will be on installing the most common building envelope systems, views on technique by class participants will be considered as well.

CRT 112: Tools and Materials Lab [RE]

Credits 1 10

Laboratory course which includes series of manipulative objectives demonstrating students' skill in use of building and construction tools, their safe use, joining of materials including measurement and layout objectives. 50% tuition rate for Apprenticeships

CRT 122: Building Construction I Lab [RE]

Credits 1 10

Laboratory course in construction methods provides study of residential building methods including foundations, floor, wall and roof framing, related structural systems, along with safety. 50% tuition rate for Apprenticeships

Prerequisite

Concurrent enrollment in CRT 121 is required.

CRT 133: Building Construction II Lab [RE]

Credits 1 10

Lab designed as real work course. Class works as crew on projects on and off campus, giving students required work experience in construction methods with emphasis on safety. 50% tuition rate for Apprenticeships

CRT 212: Construction Methods I Lab [RE]

Credits 1 10

Includes series of specific manipulative objectives designed to demonstrate students' skill in finishing techniques including exterior coverings, doors, windows, and trim, with emphasis on safety. 50% tuition rate for Apprenticeships
